TOPIC #2: Tell us what you think of our "Tennis Facilities". Where can we make improvements to make your experience more enjoyable? What are some of the things you'd like to see added, that don't exist now? How about the Tennis Staff? Are they meeting your needs? Don't be shy... we can take it.

Why can't I just check in at the ST Center with a drivers license instead of using the hand check thing? The handcheck thing is fine except that I can never remember my password (all the easy ones were taken). You've often said that the drivers license method wont work but never explained why??? I only go to the ST about once per quarter, but everytime it is a hassle to get in.

The lights are horrible. Bulbs need to be changed, or a new set of lights need to be added

I heard rumors that there is consideration of clay courts at Westchase. I favor upgrading the tennis courts to soft courts - I used to play only at Westchase but the older I get, the less I can play on hard courts, so I go elsewhere. With all the Westchase amenities such as pools, playgrounds, and golf course, I don't know why the tennis courts are not clay - look at Hunter's Green or Tampa Palms - they have terrific tennis centers, golf courses, and swim centers. In addition to considering the surfaces, someone should investigate raising the lighting at both tennis centers - the light poles are not high enough to adequately light the courts - this is quite noticeable when USTA teams play at night.

Yes, I agree. We play at night several times a week and the courts need to have several new light posts put in. There must be a way to do this without disturbing the neighbors?

Also, can you post the actual Phase 1 plans and timeframes for the court resurfacing, greater shade, and fencing? Hopefully we can add lighting to phase 1?

1) Improve court lights
2) Make 5 courts soft surface
3) Water on courts
4) Build a swim, tennis & snack shop where volleyball court is
5) 2nd tennis pro on commission
6) Lights on volleyball court & start a league or socials
7) Require lifeguards to walk perimeter of pool during breaks
8) Allow attended pool floats when pool is not busy
9) Kids water feature

Cheryl has good idea. Why not some kind of Pro Shop where Vollyball Court is? Could sell Westchase products AND serve food & drinks on weekends. Also could be used by Property Manager for OFFICE SPACE. Modular structure wouldn't cost that much, or it could be leased for a few hundred per month.

Hi,

I recently moved in the area and dont know too many people. I wondered if there's anybody to play tennis with? should i just show up randomly at the courts or is there a community tennis association?

Hi Shawn,
Welcome to Westchase. I'm not sure of your level, but we do have a number of tennis opportunities. Westchase has a Men's 4.0 USTA team, a Ladies' 3.0 & 3.5 USTA Day team and a Ladies' 3.5 night team. Mike Larschied, the club Pro, has a beginners/refresher clinic Mondays at 7pm and a workout clinic Tuesdays at 7pm & Fridays at 9:30am. The Swim & Tennis Center can help you sign up for the clinics 855-0662 and Mike can give you the captains' names and numbers for the USTA teams 453-4082. We hope to see you on the courts.

Is there anyone on the committee who is going to post answers to our questions or going to post comments to our inquiries? After all this is a blog.

If not, then this is a waste.
