I wish there was an occasional "night swim" event so that we could enjoy using the pool at night
I wish we could keep the Swim and Tennis Center and Village pools cleaner as the season progresses.
Thanks for asking us what we think! We have a gorgeous facility, and I would love to actually use it! (since I am paying for its upkeep)
Right now I have to pay $900/year to belong to the Y so I can swim and shower on the way to work.
On behalf of all the adults in Westchase who are lap swimmers, I have a request for 2 changes for the pool:
1) Open the Countryway Swim and Tennis Center for Adult Lap Swimmers earlier than 10 am. Even if it is just one adult-only lap lane.
2) Install a shower with HOT water at the Countryway Swim and Tennis Center.
Yes I know we have a 5-7 am masters pool workout available. It is WAY too early and it costs additional money.
Another reason to open at 8 or 9 is for families with children who worry about sun exposure. Heading to the pool at 10 or 11 am is very hot and the sun is fierce.
As for the shower, there is a shower at the Village pool which is perfect (although of little use because that pool is only open a few months). Right shower at wrong pool.
The current "shower" on Countryway (and I use the term loosely, it really is a "cold water dump" like we had out at camp at the lake) is freezing cold(try it in the winter months). Plus you need one hand free to keep pulling on the cord while juggling shampoo.
If you can afford to make other capital improvements at the pool, installing a shower is inexpensive compared to that.
In all my years of swimming I've never seen a "public" pool that didn't have shower and locker facilities.
I'd rather shower and change at the pool, the same as you would at any fitness center. It's like we forgot to finish the pool facility at Westchase. While one in the women's room would be awesome, I would be happy with an outdoor one like the Village Pool.
The lifeguards have told me that tons of people ask them about a shower, but that no one has ever taken any action on it.
I've made this requests yearly since 2000, despite other "we want to hear what you want" requests from the committee. Hopefully we can make this happen! Thanks so much for asking what we think in a public way!
Countryway Pool
Please make some laps available for swimming between 6-9am. Many of us would like to swim before work.
Please install a shower (indoor or outdoor) with hot water. During the winter months it is not possible to use the outdoor shower as the water is too cold.
I second the request for earlier swim times. It is difficult to get to the pool to swim at 10am if you have to be at work by 8am or 9am. Masters swim is very early and is an additional cost. A warm shower would also be nice. I have children on the swim team who have to leave cold from the pool at 7pm. Having a movie night or special event once in a while at the pool would be nice. The pool would be used more if more services were availabe such as a snack bar or vending machines. There is no reason why a community as large as westchase should have only a hand full of residents using the pool. The ant problem on the parking lot side needs to be addressed.
Thanks for listening.
Hello Committee: Listen up!
You ask for comments from us; you want people who represent swimmers? Well read your own blog and LISTEN. 3 of the 5 posts here asked for a HOT shower at the pool. We've been asking for YEARS!!!!! Then we read in WOW "Stewart also told the board that since it had been reported in last month’s WOW that the board was considering a new pool shower at the Countryway facility, residents had been calling and asking for warm water for the new shower. However, there is no water heater in the building, and it was the consensus opinion of the board that the new shower would not have warm water. The board, however, did unanimously agree to hire Drain Doctors to demolish the existing shower and install a new pool shower, using a dual head with foot shower with ADA valves, to be purchased separately by the WCA. Board approval is not required for the $450 it will cost to repair the pavers when the shower is replaced. Money for the shower will come from the Repairs and Maintenance line of the budget"
So you aren't listening....AGAIN! That's why you can't get any volunteers. HOT HOT HOT SHOWER or forget it!
1)Will umbrellas-very large ones- like those at the Village Pool be put up at the S&T Center Pool? Why can't the ones at the Village pool be moved over to the other pool while Village Pool is closed? It would be nice to sit by the pool to watch your kids under an umbrella instead of having to sit in shade under the covered area next to the meeting room....too far from pool.
2) What are the kiddie pool rules? My 7 year old son was asked to get out of the kiddie pool last week...was told he is too old....?......
3) Jan Smith does a great job! Though she wasn't there when I wanted to ask about the above two items....
