Thank you, Thank you, Thank you….
We would like to thank those of you that have been actively providing feedback on the blog. It has helped us tremendously understand your needs. Please, realize that we cannot accommodate all requests. However, we do give them all close consideration and thought.
Please, keep the feedback coming. Whether good or bad we want to hear it, and if you do not get what you want keep asking. Below you will find a summary of our work this month.
HOT Showers!!!
In recent posts and other verbal feedback a number of our residents have requested HOT showers at the S&T facilities. During our January meeting the S&T Committee discussed this request and we have put forward a recommendation to the WCA. In our recommendation we are asking the WCA to direct our property manager to seek out proposals for the installation of a heating system.
The primary limiting factor to heating of the showers is the lack of a water heater in the facilities. This is further compounded by the isolation and remote location of the shower from the main building. Hence we have suggested a first option of tapping into the pool’s geothermal system’s heat exchanger. We have also suggested a second option of installing a water heater at the facilities. The exact nature of the heater is to be determined. However, it would be gas, electric, tank, or in-line.
If you are one of the requesters for HOT water we further suggest that you lobby the WCA through your representatives. Please, look out for updates on this matter in the in the near future.

Earlier Hours for Pool Operation
A change to our operating hours would have a negative effect on other activites scheduled in the moring hours. At this time the S&T Committee has decided to not make any changes to the operating hours for our facilities.

Tennis Facility Renovations In the Works
Please, note that renovations of the tennis facilities have started. This includes new drainage surrounding the exterior perimeter, fences, court surfaces, shade structures, a couple of new soft courts at the Village facilities, and new landscaping. If you have detail questions regarding these activities please contact Mike our tennis coach for details.

Other Recent Requests
A number of other requests have been posted lately on the Blog. Please, know that we have evaluated all requests at our January meeting. Here is summary of our conclusions:
Ping-Pong Table: The S&T Committee believes that a Ping-Pong Table would be out of character with our facilities and their intended use. Given the limited request for this resource at this time we choose to not pursue this request. If there is an increased demand for this type of facility the committee will revisit it at that time.
Tennis Court Lighting: We are in the process of exploring the cost for improved lighting on the courts. This was initiated late last year as part of our renovation plan.
Hand Scanners: Hand scanners have been installed as a security feature for your safety. We will not compromise the security of our residents to accommodate the needs of the few. If you are having difficulties remembering your password, please write it down. We have also recommended the use of combination locks as back-up for the few instances when the hand scanners are not working at our tennis courts.
Ant Problem: Given our geographic situation in Florida ants are a part of life. We make all attempts to manage the ants with chemicals. However, ants are abundant in our environment so they come back.
Snack Bar and Vending: This is an idea that has come to us in the past. The primary issue with this is cost. An attempt was made last year to partner with a vendor to provide services; however, they could not establish a profitable position. We are open to ideas. If you know of any vendors interested in hosting a snack bar or vending please send them our way. We are also interested in hosting fund raisers such as community groups. If you are part of a community group that is interested in raising funds at our S&T facilities please drop us a line.

UNFINISHED BUSINESS
*2008 Events/Programs: Suggested doing a “Grand Opening” of redone tennis
courts and pool facilities. Motion by Jeremy Ramos and seconded by Jennifer Lewis to propose to the Board and hire an Events Co-ordinator to plan. PASSED unanimously.
*Hand Scanner System Backup: Motion by Jeremy Ramos and seconded by Jo
Beaumont, to purchase good quality combination locks- to be used when hand scanners are down. Residents will have to call, give name & hand scanner code to get combination to lock to access courts. This is especially important to protect the 2 new soft courts at the Village.
*Tennis Lighting: Tabled to March. Was mentioned that cost would be at least $1,000 per light post. Committee recommends PM bring back information to committee so recommendation can be made to begin reserving for replacement costs.
*Tennis Rules: Motion by Jo Beaumont and seconded by Jennifer Lewis to have tennis director reserve courts for all USTA matches and if it it becomes a problem, then it will be re-addressed at that time. PASSED unanimously.
NEW BUSINESS
Kenny Cheng Men’s Tennis Tournament: Mike to co-ordinate and will inform
Westchase residents with tournament date to be end of February. Will be in Kenny
Cheng’s honor and not for charity.
OTHER INFLUENCES
Access to Village Pool bathrooms: John Schmidt will talk to the board at their Feb.
meeting concerning having no access to bathrooms in the winter – possibility of having
a rear door.
Blog Site Comments: Discussed replies to residents.
Opening of Countryway Pool earlier from 8 to 10 AM – Jan Smith commented that
from 8 to 9 AM would require an additional lifeguard, but could open at 9 AM but
even that would not work due to swim lessons and swim team practice in the summer.
*Hot Water Shower at Countryway: There is no hot water heater at the Swim & Tennis Center. Motion by Jeremy Ramos and seconded by Jennifer Lewis to explore cost of installing hot water heater, either gas or electric or tapping into geothermal system used for pool.
Tennis Court Lights: Will be presented to board at March Board Meeting.
Cleanliness: Management aware of problem and is working on it. The Village Pool
is very difficult to keep clean in summer due to water temperature over 90.
Tennis Pro Shop: Not at this time, use would not be enough.
*February Board Meeting: Motion by Jeremy Ramos and seconded by Jennifer Lewis
to ask the Board to send a delegate to the Swim & Tennis meetings. Also, will have
minutes of January meeting on website for all Board members to read as the Swim &
Tennis Committee does not have a member who can go to the meeting. PASSED unanimously.
*Chair Assignments: It was decided to do our February meeting via Email and set up a Google or Yahoo group for the Swim & Tennis Committee. And for future meetings, feel we only need to meet quarterly. To be facilitated by BLOG Administrator- Jeremy Ramos.
